Fort Lauderdale condo hotel to open Oct. 10

Hurricane Irma delayed the opening of the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach resort until Oct. 10. The 24-story condo hotel had been scheduled to open by the end of September for its first paying guests.

The Conrad, at 551 North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard, has 290 units including studios, suites with one to three bedrooms, and three penthouses. The units have galley kitchens with touch-screen stove tops, marble bath tubs and rainfall showers.

Daily room rates in October start at $339, a spokeswoman for the property told the Sun-Sentinel.

Guests will pay a daily resort fee of $35 for Internet access, a two-hour bicycle rental, two beach chairs and an umbrella, discounted spa access, and local and toll-free phone calls.

The property features a 4,000-square-foot spa, a 20,000-square foot sky deck with a heated pool on the sixth floor and 10,000 square feet of meeting space.

The Conrad originally was named Trump International Hotel and Tower, but it was a Trump development in name only.

The developer ran out of funding in 2009 and construction came to a standstill.Lawsuits against Donald Trump ensued as plaintiffs tried to recover deposit money the developer had spent on construction work. Trump, who also sued the developer, settled many of the lawsuits arising out of the Fort Lauderdale Beach development except for two that went to trial, and the court ruled in favor of Trump in both cases in 2016.

Canada-based Heafey Group paid more than $91 million this year for 232 of the 290 units at the unfinished Conrad development. The seller was CFLB Partnerships LLC, an affiliate of Orchestra Hotels & Resorts. [Sun-Sentinel] –Mike Seemuth
